Gingerbread 6-1-2011

Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to flash a clean sbf. I am unable to update because I rooted with Z4 root, the Unroot must leave a trace of something because I fails to update to GB, I download it fine and it starts to run buy after a minute it reboots back into froyo... any Ideas?

I am in the same boat but it seems as though right now the only way is to backup and flash.

The only thing you can do if you rooted froyo and want gingerbread is to SBF back to stock and it will work for you. Very simple to do, look up videos on YouTube on how to do it.

Sent from my DROIDX using DroidForums

Won't that erase all my programs? I have titanium backup but have never used it to recover everything :s

How do you undo the "security" feature on phone calls now?? When my phone rings, it looks like the locks on either side are on & I can't answer the phone properly.

You mean you can't just slide to the right to answer and slide to the left to silent and ignore?

The buttons are only there when the screen is already on, just like Froyo. If the screen is off when the phone rings, the sliders appear.
With Froyo, I only had an "answer" button on the left side & "ignore" button on right. Never had this before. I tried to slide the ignore to left & it freak'n picked up the call. Why can't they just make subtle changes? I still haven't heard any good changes gingerbread has.

O.K. I had rooted Froyo.... with Z4Root. I didn't like how the phone was reacting so I never installed a ROM of any kind.

So I un-rooted and used the phone like that for a few weeks. Then I heard about the update and did an OTA. It worked flawlessly.

Everything seems fine. I also had my 75 year old mother do her phone (over the phone/ via land line) and everything seems o.k. there as well.

I'm going to say my battery life has improved. Not greatly. But noticeably.

I have a friend at work who bought his phone from a third party and he says his battery life is horrific. Not sure why one phone is o.k. and the next is all screwed up.

Just glad mine is working very spiffilly. (is that a word?)

New Gingerbread 596 Causing multiple Force Closes

I have multiple apps that FC everytime I click on them. I was on Apex 4.5.591 and dl'ed update from TBH app. Wiped cache and data and then flashed. Everything went ok, but now a bunch of apps don't work. Everything else seems normal. Three of which happen to be my 3 favorite apps.

Apps:
Handcent
nook reader
winamp
few others...

Any ideas?

mkris101, donballz, GeneralZod, j-brone, and DroidNewbie41 all seem to be...as well as you...

Really, you had to actually post this question as a new thread?:icon_eek:

Gingerbread and trying to close browser windows.

Never rooted (z4 never worked) so everything is still stock except for the OTA Gingerbread update. Before the update, if the internet browser had multiple windows open, I could just click the menu button, touch "Windows" and a list would come up where I could close individual windows very easily. Now with Gingerbread, the same process applies, but actually closing a window is massively more difficult. The touch zone for the little red minus sign must only be one pixel in size. If I miss that pixel, it just brings that window up. They should have made that whole "zone" to the right of the vertical bar a window close button. It's very frustrating when the browser says the maximum window limit is reached and it takes five minutes of repeating the same process trying find the spot that will actually close the window.

Not if you use Google's servers to backup all your apps, settings, etc. Settings>Privacy, Make sure Backup my data & Automatic Restore are checked. When you first setup your phone it would have asked you if you wanted these options selected, if you said yes, you should be good to go. It will only backup your apps from the market. If you have side loaded apps from your sd card, you will have to re-install them or use Titanium Backup to restore. Titanium is real easy to use, you can install all your apps with a batch (menu key, select batch), or go through and do them one at a time.

It was like that with Froyo too. Did you have your screen set to never go off? Maybe you did not have a screen lock when you were on Froyo? That might be it. You could always SBF back to Froyo, turn your screen off, and have someone call you (with your screen locked and then without it locked), but it was always there in one form or another. Subtle changes? I would consider these changes very subtle, and GB is so smooth and runs flawlessly on my phone. You might want to look into Liberty ROM DX - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum if you are interested in ROMs at all, those guys take all the bugs and squash them with every release.

Help! Senior droids

I don't know very much about this software, but last night I checked for available updates and when the phone showed one available I updated. Now my phone will not work. I have pulled the battery, tried holding the top button and home key simultaneously. Nothing will work. Now I have a perpetual exclamation mark in a triangle with a droid symbol on a black background screen. Verizon tech support says they will send me a new droid x in a few days. there has got to be a way to fix this!!
