Gingerbread 6-1-2011

That's really strange, I seem to be getting better battery life, and the percentages under battery usage are generally lower. Not sure what would cause that.

What were your steps to upgrade to GB?
I have never been rooted, never SBF, never factory reset, etc. EVER on this phone since I got it last year.
Just did the OTA GB update recently.
I do have gmail, yahoo, hotmail, aol, etc accounts, and my contacts sync icon is always on, which is known problem that supposedly goes away after a factory reset.

I followed each leaked GB release, so I was on 595 before updated directly to 596. I am rooted but I'm not overclocking, underclocking, or do anything different than non root. Mostly just using root to allow backups.
Factory reset will definitely fix the sync icon, but it definitely sucks having to restore everything and also not being able to have the data for each app backed up.
Having the sync setup to check often will definitely affect the battery life though.. I use k9mail for my domains email and gmail app for my gmail accounts. k9 checks every 15 mins, and i'm not sure how often gmail checks, whatever it is set to as stock.

I haven't had much trouble copying, it's "paste from clipboard" that's missing as well as an easy way to place the cursor to fix mistakes like the space bar not working properly.

Yeah, GB removed the 10-item clipboard paste buffer. Now, we only have access to the last copied item.
And no more "Copy All" too... need to "Select All" then "Copy".

I've never used the copy function, to say the least the "Select All" function. What would the copy / paste function be used for anyway. The only thing i've used this for is to move an app to the desktop.

What made you guys move to gingerbread? I mean you know with something new comes bugs. You know wireless tethering is being tracked. You even know that it isn't rootable yet. So why, why did you leave 2.2 or 2.2.1 from gb? I'm very very curious in what went through your minds.(those that updated) Was it for the M logo being changed to red? Was it so you could close out 1 notification at a time? I mean, it's just like upgrading from a droid x for a droid x2, what's the difference? If any at all, it is very little. For me I'll be on 2.2.1 for now because everything is just so perfect.

For me, my natural curiosity made me upgrade. Also I'm into trying new things. Doesn't hurt to :)

I was rooted on FroYo and everything. Even had Wireless Tether (Something I didn't even use *shrugs*). For me, Gingerbread works perfectly. It made a great phone so much better. The GUI is improved and the camera works as it should. Performance-wise, the phone is really fast. Overall, I'm impressed by Gingerbread. I can only imagine how lights-out it'll be once I root it.

I often use cut & paste when I type in the wrong input field. :) I also use it when editing text in evernote and quick office. The must useful and practical use for me has been copying titles of calendar items rather than swyping in repeat titles for my insanely inconsistent work schedule.

Sad to hear about us losing the recent clippings option tho... But I only used that a handful of times.

For a single word cut/paste, yes.
Selecting longer text (e.g. multi-sentence) is a little more work now under GB. Took me a while to figure out how to do it...

Ive updated to GB. Its just as easy.

I simply long press a word: left and right wings appear, copy selected word/sentence, long press highlighted phrase, copy to clipboard then paste from clipboard. Simple.

Took longer to type this than it does to copy/paste! :)

Long pressing a word does not automatically select the word and display the "wings" around the word on my DroidX; it brings up a menu where I have to pick "Select Word".
Double-tapping on a word selects the word, but there are no wings like there were in Froyo.

Weird. When I long press, the wings appear.

How do you undo the "security" feature on phone calls now?? When my phone rings, it looks like the locks on either side are on & I can't answer the phone properly.

Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to flash a clean sbf. I am unable to update because I rooted with Z4 root, the Unroot must leave a trace of something because I fails to update to GB, I download it fine and it starts to run buy after a minute it reboots back into froyo... any Ideas?

I am in the same boat but it seems as though right now the only way is to backup and flash.

You mean you can't just slide to the right to answer and slide to the left to silent and ignore?

The buttons are only there when the screen is already on, just like Froyo. If the screen is off when the phone rings, the sliders appear.

The only thing you can do if you rooted froyo and want gingerbread is to SBF back to stock and it will work for you. Very simple to do, look up videos on YouTube on how to do it.
