I know how to make a folder on a home screen and drag items into it, but is there a way to remove them from a folder back to the home screen? If I try to drag them the item will highlight but if I try to drag it the screen will lock up and I just go back to the main home screen.

To put a new item onto the homescreen, simply longpress the homescreen and add it.
To delete a shortcut from a folder, just longpress on it and drag it to the delete bin/icon.

Thanks for the reply but my question must not have been clear. I am interested in taking shortcuts out of a folder and dragging them back onto the homescreen without deleting them and having to go back to the app tray. For instance, I put all my games in a folder marked GAMES. I would just like to drag one several games out of the folder onto the homepage. Is this possible some way.

No. Dragging from a folder only moves a shortcut. Folders are somewhat limited.

Yes, just long press the item in the folder and drag it to the side of the screen. When you get to the edge, just hesitate for a second and you will be out of the folder onto the next screen. Now move it where you want it, or continue to the next screen.

The key is to not let go until you are where you want to be. I do this all the time. Works just fine for me.

This doesn't work for all shortcuts. I noticed my "Recent Docs" shortcut won't go into a folder at all.
