Dropped Calls and other thoughts

I just got my LG Lucid 4G from Verizon last night (my old Incredible got dropped and screen shattered) and in gerenal I'm loving it, though a full day's use and it's battery is lacking. I'm debating on just getting an emergency charger vs the extended battery since there will be few if any case options for the extended battery. But today while using bluetooth (so hands were not on phone to have done this myself) a call to the same company got dropped 3 times at differet points in the car. I did make a few good calls, and don't know if it was the company (they say not) or my phone and wonder what others have found.

Also, has anyone found a way to change the startup screen, in particular how long its on for before you open it? It seems to dim really quickly for what I'm used to and needing.
