Well last time I checked with Verizon on that issue, they did offer to "lease" like a Droid 2 global for the time of my trip... I think it is free (kind of don't belief that quite yet) ... but there was a limit in the amount of days you can lease it ...

That is true. If you have a non-global smartphone, Verizon will give you a global smartphone to use internationally for a time. Your only problem there is that you'll have to use the SIM card they provide for international roaming, which means you'll get charged an arm and a leg for everything you do on the phone. With a global phone of your own, you can get the SIM slot unlocked which will allow you to use a local SIM card from the country you're traveling to. It's incredibly cheaper. That's what I always do when I leave the country. I'm not about to pay the ridiculous prices that Verizon charges for international roaming.
