Droid X rooting info

Hey I'm thinking about rooting my Droid X mainly for tethering. There seems to be a lot of talk about roms and what not but all i want at this point is tethering. So can anyone point me to a how to for the easiest ans safest way to root and get a tethering app?

Im running newest foyo from V.

Also will i be able to update to any new droid OS that come to my phone?
