Droid touchscreen is out of control!

Hello everyone,

I am having major problems with my original Motorola Droid's touchscreen. The screen is randomly controlling itself. It clicks all over, randomly swipes back and forth, zooms web pages in and out, types gibberish, opens apps on its own, etc. It renders my phone completely unusable, as I can barely get past the screen lock, let alone do anything else.

I've searched the forums for this and the only known cause seemed to be using non-default chargers. I only ever charge my phone with the default charger I got from Verizon.

I have already tried resetting my phone, letting the battery run all the way down and fully recharging, completely reformatting the SD card, performing a factory wipe/reset, re-installing the ROM, everything I could think of, and nothing has helped.

This only started happening after I installed Simply Stunning 5.0 from ChevyNo1 a couple days ago. I do not believe this is the cause, however, I think that it may be a hardware issue.

If no-one can help me fix this myself I was wondering what I should do when I contact Verizon. I'm paying for the warranty so if I want to take it back to them should I un-root and go back to stock everything? Should I just smash it to avoid them finding out I rooted it at all costs? I'm scared to take it back to Verizon because the phone has been discontinued. Will they give me a refurbished phone? Will they make me get a new one? I've had this since the day it came out and I really want to avoid this at all costs.

Any help would be awesome guys. Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue. Only I have been trying to figure it out for 3 weeks now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all apps, flashed new roms, factory resets and everything. I am at my wits end. Has anyone contacted you on possible fixes? My phone is an original droid from the first weekend it was released in 2009. I noticed it is worse when the screen warms up. it will be fine if it is in sleep mode for awhile and you wake it up. It will be fine for a couple of minutes the just go nuts. Let me know if you find an answer please.

I LOVE this phone and dont want to get another one unless it is absolutely my only option.

I am rooted and running the project elite rom(which is AWESOME).

Thanks

Ron

mine did this a week ago. there was no fix. i flashed back to stock. i even tore mine down to see if it was a connection from the screen to the board and was still a problem. it seemed to be with the screen itself being bad and not the cables to the board or the connections. i didn't pay for the warranty so i just had to order myself a certified pre owned d2 global for 99 from verizon. basically the same phone just newer.

I use the docking station I bought from verizon which I am pretty sure is stock and I have the window/dash mount from verizon in my truck. When charging in the truck I use a verizon car charger. I am pretty sure it is all stock.

I never did figure out what was wrong with it. I just re-flashed to unrooted stock and took it in to Verizon and got a replacement under warranty.

I gotta say though, I miss my old original Droid. The physical keyboard on this refurbished one is completely different. On my original one the individual keys were more like actual keys on a keyboard. They were kind of rounded and raised. On this refurbished one I got the keyboard is completely flat, more like an overlay.

I tried everything I could and never succeeded in getting it to stop though. Sorry guys.

I also had this problem once before then it stopped with the whole left side of my screen and back haptic button going completely dead at which point the phone was sent to Motorola as it was still in warranty the screen was replaced and it was good as new.... till recently when the problem reared its ugly head again after i used a Blackberry Charger to charge ma phone (im so dumb) i let the battery drain completely and then recharged with the usb and my laptop and the problem has seeminly stopped with recurences only when i use incorrect chargers.

Yea, mines been doing the same. It's highly annoying. It'll just be unresponsive and twitch while hitting the letter D over and over until I put it to sleep and wake it back up.

i have charged my D2 with my Storm 1 charger and the only difference in them i think is the name on them and the amount of current they put out. BB charger i think is like 950mAh right?

mine started this three weeks ago. touch screen was "possesed" and the back button quit working. I wiped, reinstalled, opened the phone, etc. nothing worked. I called asurion(verizons insurance) and told them I lost the phone while fishing in a boat(so u dont have to send the old one back). It should arrive today. I did use "non-stock" chargers for nearly a year before this happened, so I am reluctant to think thats the cause. My question is, what happens if i put my old (rooted) memory card in the new unrooted phone?

Mine started this yesterday...pretty much exactly a month out of warranty.

I could do an early upgrade to something like the just release Thunderbolt...but that's jut basically an Evo. I want to hold out for something like the Bionic or Droid 3...so it looks like I'll be scouring craigslist and ebay for a phone to last me for a few more months.
