Droid Razr Maxx screen damage?

Hi guys..I am new to the forums :) (so I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section)

But I had a question..I am getting my new Droid Razr Maxx on Wednesday and I am just wondering if anyone has had any problems after they have dropped the phone. I am asking because I am really looking forward to my new phone, but I wanna know the accessories I should get. Do you guys recommend a case? I am not a huge fan of cases, and I drop my Droid (original first gen) maybe less than once a month. The reason I am very concerned about this is because I actually saw a drop test video of the Droid Razr Maxx and it actually ruined the screen by dropping from shoulder height. I am also very concerned because I went with the Droid Razr Maxx because of 1) battery life, 2) I LOVE droid, and 3) my entire family has an iPhone and my mother recently dropped her, only once, and it SHATTERED the screen. Any help on how good this device holds up would be greatly appreciated :D

Although I am a Nexus owner I would say the Razr Maxx is a pretty solid device in terms of impacts. We all drop our phones on different surfaces and it also depends on where the impact is. Gorilla glass or not, all phones (at least to my knowledge) can get cracked/shattered if the impact hits a certain spot on the spot. I dropped my Nexus from about 4in on concrete with alot of concrete pebbles. No shatter glass as it landed on the back of the device, but it did get a scuff. Since then I've gotten a cheaper TPU case to use when I'm outdoors.

You can't really compare a drop between a razr or any other Android phone to the iPhone. The iPhone is literally coated in glass and that makes it extremely fragile as you saw. Any phone coated in glass will surely crack compared to a phone with a kevlar backing, plastic backing, rubber backing, etc.

I dropped mine today from about waist high, screen is shattered and the display will not work. Needless to say, I am not happy, I dropped my droid x several times and never even a scratch. :(

I highly recommend a ZAGG screen shield and an OtterBox Commuter case. You can get them much cheaper on a site like Amazon than you would in a store.
