DROID CAMERA - where is this glare coming from

This is the 1st picture taken with my new DROID - indoors

This is a image from my Samsung Omnia - 2min later

I wiped the lens, I know the "focus" issue was due to a bug in the software and its not on the rag for another month. It focused real fast. no flash on either camera.

Please say "software will be fixed on Dec 11th" becasue that's not so good for a 5MB pixel camera. Those are thumbnails, you can click for the full size.

Actually the focus is working as well as can be expected since we are in the "good focus cycle". The patch on the 11th will make the fix permanent, but I don't think it'll fix anything else about the camera.

Yeah I am quite happy with the camera but have definitely noticed that if there is anything bright in an otherwise darker image, it will have that glow to it and can sometimes be overwelming.

It doesn't like bright lights lol

oh ya and I mentioned "in an otherwise darker image" because if you are outside in full brightness, everything looks great. The issue happens when you are in a darker/shady area and taking a picture of something brighter. It washes everything out and glows/glares.

Yeah, the Droid camera does kinda give some objects a celestial glow, to put it lightly...like there's vaseline rubbed on the lens or something. Pretty sure that's just the way it is.

I know this isnt a fix but try setting the resolution at 3mp instead of 5, i am finding camera is way more responsive and takes better pics.

Folks, the camera lens is the size of a pencil eraser. Do not expect the same quality as you would get from even a $100 point-and-shoot (which also is carp but better than a phone camera).

I have to side with the O.P. on this one... I too am coming from the samsung omnia to the droid, and the omnia takes much better pics... I did a side by side comparison last night with both phones and the omnia out shined the droid "most" of the time. The only time the droid took better pics is when flash was used- the omnia flash sucks, and the droid finally prevailed- hopefully its just software and can be fixed- my 2 cents...

I have Thanksgiving off and we are going to my sisters for dinner. I will be taking a ton of pictures and videos.
