Starting to see some reviews on the Droid 4. Still have my original motorola droid. Any opinions on the differences? I hear the screen, camera, and battery isnt that great on the Droid 4 but thats comparitive to the droid 3. My model is a couple years earlier then even the droid 3. I want to get an idea on how those 3 categories compare to my phone. Would definitely like to hear some thoughts, especially if you own the Droid 4.

Went with Razr over the "4".

I too have an original Droid I. We have never liked the keyboard that came with it because of the flatness of it, and the problem of trying to access the top row with a cover installed.

We were going to get the new Droid 4 because it has a much nicer keyboard, but since we're so used to using the touch screen now (and after trying the "4" at the store - and not crazy about it), we opted for the Razr.

All around, the new phones have much better everything, from what I can tell. Faster 'puter, better cams, and of course 4G. Ours will be in this weekend and we can't wait!

Well, in terms of specs, I would say an upgrade in every category. The main difference would of course be the UI; vanilla android vs moto's UI. The problem with comparing the two is that you have a first generation device vs a device that's about 2 years newer. Best recommendation for you is to go check it out yourself in the store and see how you like it.

The Droid 4 is a colossal upgrade over the original Droid in terms of hardware. But in terms of dev and ROM support (if that's your thing) it would most likely be a downgrade.

This is a pretty old thread but you can check out the Droid 4 forum here: Droid 4 Forum

I went from the OG Droid to the Droid 4 so if you have other questions I might be able to help.

I have the OG Droid, the Droid 3 and the Droid 4 sitting right in front of me.

The Droid 4 is a MAJOR upgrade over the OG Droid....and a decently nice upgrade over even the Droid 3.

Droid 4 vs. OG Droid
1.2 Ghz dual-core CPU vs. 550/600Mhz single-core CPU
4" screen vs. 3.7" screen (and you can see the Droid 4's in direct sunlight)
1 Gb Ram vs. 256 Mb Ram
3 Gb of App storage vs. 256 Mb of App storage
8 Gb internal media storage + empty SD card slot vs. SD Card slot only w/16 Gb card installed
4G LTE vs. 3G
Unbelievably better keyboard on the Droid 4
8 Mp camera vs. 5 Mp camera
Front facing camera vs. no FFC
Current OS = Gingerbread, getting ICS vs. Current OS = Froyo (official)

All in all...dev and ROM support hasn't meant as much to me on the Droid 4's hardware. It's fast, I get decent battery life, I can tether (at 4G speeds), I'm rooted.....ICS leaks are out if I wanted to jump ahead... I haven't really felt the need to install a different ROM. Root, change out launchers (using Holo Launcher) and I love the phone. With ICS coming....it'll even get better.
