Droid 2 specs vs. droid 1?

Can someone please tell me what is different about the D2 vs. the D1? I called Verizon and they couldn't pull up the D1 specs for some reason. I wouldn't normally post such a noob question, and yes, I know google is my friend but I don't have time to a side by side comparison on my D1 right now. Thanks very much in advance

Twice the ram and about twice the cpu power and some phys keyboard tweaks. And on the root side of things, the bootloader is locked.

Plus 8GB app storage onboard compared the the 512MB on the Droid1. But it was definitely what they call an 'evolutionary, not revolutionary' upgrade

There are hacks to get around the locked bootloader to mod and install custom roms, but the bootloader is still locked.

I'm confused...but that happens often ;-). If I can install custom roms, overclock and theme then why is it an issue if the bootloader is locked?

It just limits what we can do with roms. Certain roms will never come to the X because they require the bootloader to be unlocked. We can overclock the X with an app instead of getting custom kernals (again, bootloader issue).

The "custom roms" have to retain the same Linux OS kernel and most of the system files. It is not possible to change to a different version of Android. The D2G is running Android 2.2 Froyo. My daughter's droid 1 has an unlocked bootloader and I was able to install an Android 2.3 Gingerbread based rom. My daughter's Droid 1 is running a newer version of Android then my D2G because the Droid 1 has an unlocked bootloader.

The fact the d1's bootloader is unlocked is also what let's it run just as fast, if not faster than the D2 and D2G. (My droid 1 runs at 1.21gHz, while my Droid 2 Global runs at 1.2gHz)-all thanks to Pete's kernels.

Figured I'd take m'old Droid for a spin today.

You can also OC the D2, which will still make it faster than your D1.

Debatable, since there probably are some kernels hanging around that can push D1 up to 1.3+gHz if I recall right. Though at that point, it might just blow up
(Anyone notice the BTTF reference aswell?)

Lol, 1.3 Ghz isn't far from what my D1 can run with the deprimed kernel...not sure if its my phones fault or the kernel but I can run up to 1.295 Ghz just fine (just a little warm though lol) but that 1.3 escapes me
Btw linpack scores running that speed are about 17.9 (also my gingerbread rom helps out with that score too)...I'm curious what a D2 is capable of as far as linpack scores...anyone have comparison scores?

clock speed isnt everything. Your still limited in the d1 by the ram. So a d1 clock at 1.25ghz and a d2 clock at 1.25ghz the d2 will still out run the d1.
If you dont believe me go google it.
Still other limitings on both phones. Kernals, cache, roms, etc.
As far as the every day user, the d2 will be faster at the same speeds.
^ Electrical and Computer engineering stand point.
also I have both phone right next to them with the same specs (or as close as possible) and the d2 just runs smoother, and faster
