At this point have you considered taking it to a local store and having them do it? If there is a internal problem then they should fix it. Otherwise your ordeal is rediculous.

Ay&T requires the download thru WiFi only. You can't download over data...

At least that is my understanding

That was my experiene tonight. After three failed attempts to download the damned thing, I tried the next download with wifi turned off. It didn't like that and wouldn't let me proceed without turning it on. What do I know....

Fifteen minutes ago, it let me download again (probably knowing how damned persistent I can be), and I'm downloading now in safe mode (thanks KaosMaster - so far so good. It seems like a much slower download. Could be my imagination or the late hour. I'll report back with the results. I hope I don't wind up putting the tip of a katana through it LOL

Was about to if this last gambit fails (downloading in safe mode). If all is well, it should reboot at the end back into unsafe mode (pun intended).

KaosMaster ... nope, not rooted.

Funny. I was in the middle of a download when I thought I'd try turning off wifi. When I did, the download stopped and a window pops up saying "to proceed, turn the wifi back on dummy". So I did.

DIdn't work. Same problem. The mistake I might have made is when the download finished, the phone rebooted. At that point I should've (maybe) held down the volume control so it rebooted in safe mode...but I don't know if that would've made a different. Will try a
