Do not disturb and text message question

My starred contacts are allowed to call thru when "do not disturb" is engaged. Works fine.

Texts from those starred contacts are not allowed thru. Is that just the way it works? Is there a way to allow certain texts thru?

I think I found it.
Long press on do not disturb.
Then press Priority only Allows...
Messages.
