Disappearing app icons

Why do I lose app icons from the app page on my droid x when they are still installed on my phone. Im having to uninstall and reinstall to get the icons back. Pardon my newbie status

Most of the time if you turn your phone off for a few seconds and then turn it back on these "odd" things disappear. Worth a try.
