Corporate Exchange Users: Does your phone stay in sync?

My D2G doesn't stay synced especially if the phone is in standby sleep mode with the screen locked. I've tried all manner of settings as well as touchdown, stock email app, and Improved Email app and they all behave similarly. It will require a reboot or battery pull to get the emails going again if the phone has been inactive for a while. Owners of other Motorola models also seem to have this kind of problem with email just want to see other corporate users experiences with the D2G.

Just went over to surf the Motorola forums and apparently this is more wide spread than I thought. Basically lots of their newer phones seem to not handle Exchange push email properly this is INCLUDING the Droid Pro which is specifically marketed towards corporate users. I would recommend anyone contemplating this phone that needs to use it for work purposes to have second thoughts until they can really fix the problem. They've released fixes for this before but seems like it still doesn't work. My wife got this phone to replace a Blackberry.. what a joke!

Multiple threads here regarding the issue.

Same problem

I had precisely this problem, and ended up returning the phone. Exchange sync was flaky. A clue was that Google Talk was also flaky. It was clear that when the phone was inactive for a while that the connection to both services was lost. I played around quite a lot with various settings on the phone, pulled the battery multiple times, etc. but could not find any consistent behavior.

After calling Verizon to initiate the return, I reactivated my Incredible. Both the Exchange and Google Talk clients work perfectly (and always have)!

And, yes, after searching around on various forums, it seems that both Exchange and Google Talk problems are very common. I think this is shocking, and speaks to very poor software quality control on Motorola's part. That said, the call and speakerphone quality is far superior to the Incredible.

I'm just trying to use hotmail over Exchange and it's not working properly. It sends mail ok, but my inbox shows empty on the D2G.

Yeah my wife can't live with this inconsistency for work related usage. I'm sure that EVENTUALLY they will fix the problem but she's lost faith in Motorola products. She'll be switching over to the HTC Merge when it comes out.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing the same. Do we know that HTC is better with Exchange? Or is this an Android problem which will be the same on HTC

Thanks for the links! What I do not understand -- when I had an iPhone it synced with Exchange in less than a minute. I could accept/decline meetings/appointments without any problems. The BB gave us fits. Android is a great OS but lacking here.

It sounds like a motoblur issue. I am not having issues on my D1 with Froyo. That said, you should give Touchdown a try. Great app and it works great.

Yeah, i sent this via tapatalk. You got a problem with that?

Touchdown worked for a short while for us then crapped out. =( Uninstalled it and tried the Improved Email app which lasted a little longer but still eventually crapped out too. If you're depending on email.. for critical use at work I wouldn't look at the new Motorola droids. Even the Droid "PRO" marketed towards business users is having similar problems. Hopefully the HTC Merge wont disappoint in the same way.

I had the same experience on the D2G --- even Touchdown failed to stay in sync consistently. Based on that and my experience with GTalk, and the many, many threads on various forums, it really seems that the D2G has a problem with the way it goes into standby.

mwhartman -- that link is broken for me. I'm curious to see what you're pointing to; would you mind re-posting?

Thanks,

Brian
