Catastrophic issue with Droid2 battery life

Hey guys, sorry I didn't do more searching about for an answer for my question, but my issue makes phone usage limited and has a huge impact on my ability to troubleshoot this.

My phones battery literally lasts about five hours max. Ill take it off the charger about 730am and will be at around 20% by 1130am. I don't have mass apps running and regularly kill off processes with a process manager.

Ive only had my droid2 since sept, so about 4 months. I know the battery is jacked cuz it literally takes it about 45 min to an hour to charge it from about 15% to a "full" charge. I've tried fully discharging then charging the battery once and ended up with the same results.

Weird issue today. After it dropped to 20% by lunch, I charged it to 90% in about 45 minutes. About two or so hours later when it said 30-40%, I rebooted it. Just before it went down the red led flashed. When the phone came back up it said I had 5% life left, then tried rebooting again and the phone didn't turn on at all until I charged it back up to atleast 20% (which took about five to ten minutes)

Wanna know if there's any way I can REALLY calibrate the battery. Maybe an app can help with this? Will I need to just out and purchase a new battery completely?

Thanks for all the help ahead of time.

Are you rooted and running a custom ROM?

Using anything to automatically kill apps is apparently a no-no and can adversely affect battery life.

What is your regular phone usage like?

IMO though it sounds like you may have a defective battery.

Make sure you don't have email or social networking updating too frequently.
Screen brightness and live wallpaper can affect battery as well as having animations turned on.
If you're in an area with bad coverage and you see 1x more than you see 3g, that will kill your battery in a hurry.

And as stated in the previous post, no task killers.

If you'll notice, there has been quite a few people lately with the same problem. I have an original Droid and the same thing happened to me last week. For example, earlier this week I had a full charge and after using the web browser for @ 2 minutes the battery liife had dropped to 20%!! One time it dropped from 80 to 40 in a few minutes and after I rebooted, it went up to 60. So far I haven't found the cause of it and I don't think an app will cause a drop that fast.

Rooted, yes. Custom ROM, no.
Another thing i noticed, if i leave it throughout the night while i sleep (when i'm not using it AT ALL) i'll wake up and it'll have the same battery life as when i went to sleep. (figure about 5-6 hours later) Soon as i even start just turning the screen on and off, it'll drop about 10% in about 10 minutes. Screen is on dimmest level, no live wallpapers, and no AUTOMATIC task killing. All manual whenever i dont want an app to run in the background or to speed up the phone and consistent 3G connection...any ideas?

You should probably see VZW about another battery. On a side note, it's normal to only take about an hour to fully charge a D2 battery with a wall charger.

Run the battery till its dead. Then charge it until the phone is fully charged. Charge with the phone off. Then boot into clockwork recovery and there is an option to wipe the battery statistics. Wipe them. Let the phone run til its dead. Charge fully and if that doesn't help then you probably have either a bad battery or some app is misbehaving badly. If I explained this wrong anybody feel free to correct, but this method worked for me.
