buy iphone 4s now, return for galaxy nexus befor jan15th?

Ok, I was wondering if you guys could let me know if this plan is solid or not

Right now I have the original droid on verizon and it is barley getting by right now. I have been patiently waiting for droid bionic...which turned into patiently waiting for the galaxy nexus, and now its like the release date changes every week. There is an update available on our family shared plan so I need to grab it before one of my siblings does. I was thinking about just going to a verizon store right now and paying $199 for an iphone 4s. Then I can test it out...see how i like it, but at least have a reliable phone for a bit. Then my plan is to go back and return it for the galaxy nexus before january 15th and pay a $35 restocking fee. Will there be any problem with this plan? Do i just have to make sure the iphone stays in mint condition till then?

The only problem is no one knows the official release date. A possible release date could be 1/16/12 and there goes your plan

yeah I understand that risk, but if it gets pushed back that far I probably wouldnt wait anyways. And if the release date is 1/16 then i would probably just return it 1/14 for the razr or resound or just keep the 4s. Also side question for anyone who is knowledgeable on the subject. If i bought a case with the 4s could i return that also up to jan15 or is that going to have the standard 14 day return policy?

I think VZW stores are starting to receive their shipments (at least according to droid-life), many folks are saying Nexus out this coming Friday.

Yeah i just saw that post on droid-life and its exciting news. But even so there are no holes in my plan right? It would be nice to give the iphone 4s a whirl for a bit, but I just want to avoid walking in and having them reject my request for an exchange..that would be a disaster because im pretty set on the galaxy nexus

If I were you then I would wait till this week passes then. As said there are confirmed shipments to stores so maybe they may even announce an official release date this week. The rumored release date is this Friday so if I were you I'd just wait til the end of the week, if no word on the Nexus then go for the 4s.

Yeah i am thinking about waiting one more week. So right now the only consideration is whether i want to waste $35 on test driving a different phone. I think it would be worth it if the nexus keeps getting pushed back but if it drops this friday then that would suck. All of this wouldnt be a problem if verizon would just give us a damn release date instead of keeping us in the dark

Just make sure you don't accidentally drop the iPhone and shatter the screen. That could put a hole in your plan

That would definitely put a hole in my plan haha, i would be extra careful with it and get a case

I agree with the others, just give it to the end of this week. Then you can try both. Now, make SURE to keep absolutely all paperwork, boxes, everything for the iPhone if you get it so there can't be a reason for them not to accept it back. That includes making sure you don't scratch it as that could be used against you. Other than that, go for it. Good way to try both options.
