Does plugging the phone in have an affect on the quality of the battery? I've heard the battery can only be plugged in so many times before it fries.

I believe it is not good to use the phone while plugged into the charger. It can cut the life of the battery down.

Oh wow. But each charge specifically doesn't affect battery life over time?

I am not sure if each charge effects battery, I assume it would add to wear and tear. But it is also good to let battery run down most of the way before charging it too.

First off, lithium ion batteries are not like NiCad batteries. They do not develop memories. They do not need to be fully discharged and then fully charged. A partial charge is not harmful. A full discharge is. If a lithium ion battery gets fully discharged it is dead, forever. If a lithium ion battery gets overcharged, it is dead, forever. Because of this the battery pack in our Fascinate, and in fact all lithium ion batteries, is a computer unto itself. This computer stops the battery from charging when it gets to 100% and prevents the battery from being used past 1 %(this varies from battery type to battery type, .5% to 5%). It also tells the phone how much charge the battery has left. It is not the phone that monitors your battery, but this computer.
Battery life will vary from user to user. My battery will not last as long as someone who only flashes 1 ROM a day. Likewise their battery will not last as long as someone who flashes a new ROM once a month. I’m simplifying it, but you get what I am saying. There are many things that contribute to charge loss.

Speaking of battery life on a Fascinate, maybe someone can verify this for me. My girlfriend has the Fascinate, and battery isn't lasting that long, about 2 to 3 hours max. So she goes to our local VZW store and they tell her that she's been charging her battery wrong. The "Device Specialist" they had there told her that she needs to charge the battery for a full 7 to 8 hours. That when her Fascinate tells her that the battery is completely charged it's actually a "false reading" and that it just means it's "almost got a complete charge." The device specialist wouldn't ok the exchange for a new battery and just told her to charge it for a full 7 to 8 hours and she'll see a drastic improvement over the battery life.

So does this sound right? Honestly I think it's a load, I was shocked when she called me and told me what their so-called device specialist said. I'm going to go down tomorrow and speak with the store manager about this, but before I do. I just want to know if this is true. I'm not all that techie but I would think if a device tells you it's got a complete charge, it's got a complete charge.

Plausible. Also less than half of people read the manual, which tells you to do a full charge before use. But it is true that it needs to learn what the charge is. Being rooted I can wipe by battery data everytime I have complications with new Roms that kill batt. So yes it is true that it needs to get data of a long charge. But it is flawed by it not really starting fresh. Do a full factory reset or root and wipe batt. Have her give it a shot then let us know how it goes.
