Bar Next To Notification Bar?

Hey I was looking at the notification bar on my droid x and noticed you can kind of see into the phone where the light is. On the right side opposite that bar if you look in the light to can barely see the dim outline of two squares. What are these squares, I have never seen them blink?

I think you're referring to the brightness sensors which sense how bright it is outside. That way your phone can adjust to different settings.
