backup and restore milestone

Newbie here. I did some searching and couldnt find a good answer to my situation. I am sure it is simple. My Milestone quit sending and recieving as if the antenna went out. very little signal and no 3g symbol. Wifi seems to work. phone is not rooted. They are sending me a replacement phone. What is the best/easiest way to transfer my data to a new Milstone. On my old BB you could just choose "switch devices" in a desktop manager program. Thank you, and sorry if this is a real basic problem. New to Milestone.

I think you have to root it to make backup of system files. While Motorola have pc sw to backup pic's and sms's, the Titanium Backup is a top program that backs up all to SD card. Then you copy all to pc via usb, to be able to start from scratch on your phone, and restore all. You can eraze the sd if you have a lot of empty lib's, after having copyied all other useable libs to pc in the first place.
