App that roots/OCs/multi-touches and tethers for $5

Doesn't this work to OC for now without 2.0?

Martin,

No it does not, you have to DL "Set CPU" from the market and you can overclock to 600mhz. You can install another ROM (from my understanding) that allows an overclock of 800mhz, but its not the "easy, idiot proof" way of dl from market and install. This app is really a revelation in that it allows non-tech savy people to root w/o issue.

Ah man.... 20 more pages of posts since I last checked this thread.

Purchased and installed about an hour ago. Total time to download and install was about 8 minutes. No issues, flawless install.

A couple issues post install though. I selected Home instead of Launcher is there a way to change the default? I notice a bit of lag and overall doesn't really seem faster. The device itself is more warm, not hot, but noticeably higher temp. When I scroll through web pages the screen pixelates a bit. The standard wireless mode doesn't keep a connection.

A reboot *should* fix the lag. As far as the device being warm, i dunno, unles you have bought the $.99 app to overclock then your device is still running at the same temp. Even with the overclock, you can only max out at 600mhz (for now) that would not casue and excess heat... at least it shouldn't.
if you just downloaded the app its probably gonna be warm that was a lot of info that it processed in a short time. My phone was warm last night after i installed it and i had a body glove on it.

This thread is flying. And you're right. The device has cooled down and seems normal now in terms of temperature. After continuing the read I found the Home/Launcher solution, previously everyone was saying to reinstall and I knew there had to be an easier way. Camel answered here: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...-multi-touches-tethers-5-a-32.html#post194366
After switching to Launcher the lagging has pretty much gone away but there is still some here and there.
Still issues with browser pixelating and I'll give a while to see if the wifi sorts its self out.

Great work on this by the way Camel. You're one smart dude. Well worth the $5.

My Youtube playback is getting worse and worse, it's pretty much crashing my phone regardless of high or low quality now.
Sigh, hopefully this'll get addressed however might have to switch back to stock OS.
it may be something minor, before you uninstall pm camel he may can help you beause it maybe something minor. It couldnt hurt to uninstall unroot and start from scratch.

Sigh this is a bit annoying. I realize that $5 is a small amount of money and that it's very cool that developers are working hard to get workarounds for imposed limitations on our hardware. So I can't really complain too much, but to be honest I was confused into thinking that this app was a convenient alternative to manually rooting my phone... this is not the case.
Landscape drawer buggy, switching display orientation freezing my phone, Youtube crashing phone every time now, 3G inconsistencies... and now I feel that I have to un-root my phone which I do not know how to do yet.
I guess I'm glad I didn't pay more for this... I'm just hoping I can get my phone back to its normal, stock, slightly-slower-but-bug-free state.

I wish developers tested their stuff out a bit more before letting the public at it... but I guess the costs of R&D are negated by how cheap the app is to buy.

Ok, I have lost the following:

PDA Net, navigation. I also don't have any luck with Wireless tether. I have reimaged this. Can I just undo this whole thing and go back to how things were? If so how do I do that? PLEASE HELP!

once you device settles down (i say in bout an hour) do a reset, after i did that almost all the lag was gone. Also after the mod is done, when i clicked back on it, I was prompted to update. I updated and reran the app...let it run for bout 10 mins then did a reset and so far so good.

You can just boot into where you did your reflash from and wipe data/factory reset from there. All your apps will be saved in the download folder on the market place so you can just redownload them from there. As for PDA Net, you can download it again from the app store and just ignore the warning of it being the wrong version if you have the paid version.

Having a lot of issues after doing this, hopefully they will continue to fix them.

Also is anyone noticing that their phone is getting much much hotter? I am worried this will really damage the CPU.

UMMM ... there is nothing wrong that is not in the release notes. They are both in this thread and also posted here:

AllDroid - View topic - [ROM .tgz] 2.0.1 Sholes.info Edition 1.2 (UPDATED: 01/25/10)

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...oles-info-edition-1-2-updated-01-25-10-a.html

Wait 2 days for 2.0.0 ... I have been running this ROM since 1/25

I'm assuming you updated to .002 which is currently in the market?

if you just finished its going to be hot especially if you did it over 3g that was a lot of info to process in a short time. Give you phone a little time to cool off.

yes sir (10 char)

Found this at alldroid. It should fix your wifi

This will be included in v1.3 but for now, here's your fix.

1. Reboot into recovery.
2. mount system and data, then remove WifiTether.apk from /system/app and the android.tether folder from /data/data (rm -r /data/data/android.tether works for directories that aren't empty)
3. Push the linked WifiTether.apk into /system/app
4. Reboot
5. Open Wifi Tether app and go! (that's right, no need for reboot)

NOTE: EVERYTHING WORKS!!! WEP, Access Control...EVERYTHING!

You're welcome.

EDIT: Whoops forgot to attach lol. http://downloads.sholes.info/WifiTether.apk
