App that roots/OCs/multi-touches and tethers for $5

My Youtube playback is getting worse and worse, it's pretty much crashing my phone regardless of high or low quality now.
Sigh, hopefully this'll get addressed however might have to switch back to stock OS.
it may be something minor, before you uninstall pm camel he may can help you beause it maybe something minor. It couldnt hurt to uninstall unroot and start from scratch.

Sigh this is a bit annoying. I realize that $5 is a small amount of money and that it's very cool that developers are working hard to get workarounds for imposed limitations on our hardware. So I can't really complain too much, but to be honest I was confused into thinking that this app was a convenient alternative to manually rooting my phone... this is not the case.
Landscape drawer buggy, switching display orientation freezing my phone, Youtube crashing phone every time now, 3G inconsistencies... and now I feel that I have to un-root my phone which I do not know how to do yet.
I guess I'm glad I didn't pay more for this... I'm just hoping I can get my phone back to its normal, stock, slightly-slower-but-bug-free state.

I wish developers tested their stuff out a bit more before letting the public at it... but I guess the costs of R&D are negated by how cheap the app is to buy.

You didnt *have* to pay the 5 bucks. They said if you wait a few days it will be made availiable free of charge...

UMMM ... there is nothing wrong that is not in the release notes. They are both in this thread and also posted here:

AllDroid - View topic - [ROM .tgz] 2.0.1 Sholes.info Edition 1.2 (UPDATED: 01/25/10)

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...oles-info-edition-1-2-updated-01-25-10-a.html

Wait 2 days for 2.0.0 ... I have been running this ROM since 1/25

So there's something in that link about Youtube constantly crashing my phone, 3G inconsistencies, etc?
I understand that you might not being having the same problems, but that doesn't mean that you can apply your experiences to mine.
I don't mind waiting a few days for 2.0, but I'd rather the developers iron out all the kinks before making something like this available on the marketplace, just my opinion.

Having a lot of issues after doing this, hopefully they will continue to fix them.

Also is anyone noticing that their phone is getting much much hotter? I am worried this will really damage the CPU.

Your phone's CPU is running at the exact same speed it was before the root... READ PEOPLE, READ!!!! lol

if you just finished its going to be hot especially if you did it over 3g that was a lot of info to process in a short time. Give you phone a little time to cool off.

Actually I did it over WiFi and it got hot once the OS actually started, not during the update. Worrying me a bit.

Found this at alldroid. It should fix your wifi

This will be included in v1.3 but for now, here's your fix.

1. Reboot into recovery.
2. mount system and data, then remove WifiTether.apk from /system/app and the android.tether folder from /data/data (rm -r /data/data/android.tether works for directories that aren't empty)
3. Push the linked WifiTether.apk into /system/app
4. Reboot
5. Open Wifi Tether app and go! (that's right, no need for reboot)

NOTE: EVERYTHING WORKS!!! WEP, Access Control...EVERYTHING!

You're welcome.

How to *completely* get back to stock (no su, no busybox)
Download this: http://downloads.sholes.info/update.zip

Place it in the root of your sdcard, so /sdcard/update.zip

If you're still on the stock recovery, choose "apply sdcard:update.zip"

If you're using sprecovery, choose "install", then "Allow update.zip installation", then "Install /sdcard/update.zip (depreciated). After it's done, go back to the root menu and choose "wipe cache partition" (It's also a good idea to wipe data/factory reset also, but not necessary). Reboot when that's done, and when you reboot, you'll be completely back to stock (no su, no busybox, no nothing).

Easy peasy.

(Note: This is re-rootable, so you can always root it again if you wish)

Again, i'm slacking off at work, don't have my labtob/USB cable at the moment... i will in about 2 hours when i get home though

My question never did get answered...
Im rooted now but havent flashed any roms...the only thing I have is Superuser and setCpu.

If I choose to d/l this app and flash this stuff over to my phone will I still get the OTA from Verizon...and if so will and I choose to take it...will I loose root and change over to stock 2.1?

I like the idea of being able to play with this stuff now but I would like to progress with the Verizon updates...

???

Ok, I read everything and i rebooted after wifi tether startup....Still don't see anything to connect to? I looked in "view wireless networks" and i see a verizon wifi but it won't connect. Is that what i'm supposed to connect to? Thanks...

i am not ignoring you i was searching the site and writing my term paper at the same time. Ok from what I am seeing it looks like it will block ota, but the ota will remove root, but sholes will push an ota to you I am still searching for where it was discussed before.

How do I remove the files? If I connect to PC I can't access system. While in the recovery menu I can't access the file system at all. Obviously I'm missing something.

yes, a standard verizon update will unroot your phone. You will have to wait for a rooted version of the 2.1 update to come out first before you can update.
