I have been reading the OC 101 thread a lot and understand the jist of it all.

I have SSv4.7 ss theme, and the chevy mv 1.0 ghz kernel on my phone.

I have overclocked using set CPU and have these profiles.

screen off 400/250
CPUtemp > 54C 550/250
Temp>44.9C 550/250
Charging/Full 800/250
Battery< 21 400/250
Battery< 31 550/250
Battery< 41 700/250

advanced settings
30000, 70, 0, 0

and my main seting is 1000/250.

I NEVER have high battery temps, highest I have ever seen with heavy usage while plugged in was like 105f, typically they are in the mid 90s. I always monitor my temps...and have the temp profiles in place incase it gets hot. And I havent experienced anything over about 131F highest...that I recall. I have been pretty diligent about monitoring temps.

Battery life is decent. Pretty heavy usage today 630am-130 pm drained to 50%.

*****My main question is...what would be the ill effects of overclocking to 1000mhz all the time (other than the profiles)...as long as my temps are managed?

I see a lot of people only clock to 800 because of "no performance difference between 800 and 1000". But...my phone DOES have a performance difference between 1000 and 800. At least quadrant scores and linpack benchmarks are substancially higher. Things seem to load quicker on my phone at 1000 compared to 800.

Mflops 800 = 11.1-11.3
Mflops 1000= 13.9-14.1

quadrant 800 = 1200 ballpark
quadrant 1000 = 1409 highest, 1350s ballpark.

Is the risk worth the performance difference? Should I just clock down to 800. Temps are only slightly cooler at 800 compared to 1000. I mean like on 5 degrees F difference.

Quadrant and Linpack scores are just that, scores. They're a good gauge but by no means the tell all factor of your phones performance.

Overclocking ANY type of chip is going to shorten life span. But there are many of us who have been running at 1ghz or higher since almost a year ago and still going strong :)

I'm not do for an upgrade till November 2011. Hope it will last at least that long lol. Would be just about a year and couple months more.

The armv7 processor from what I have read is from 600-1000+MHz. Shouldn't it be able to handle it as long as temperatures are manageable

There are people on here who've been running 1.2-1.3GHz for months without an issue. SetCPU and your phone will judge if you're getting too hot in the short term, and if you keep it from getting too hot in the short term you don't have to worry about long-term damages.

Except to your relationships. Droids have claimed more than one boy/girlfriend/marriage. :D
