Another newbie looking for help with tethering

Hi all, I have a rooted Droid 2 running ota Gingerbread 2.3.3. Lately I have been trying to tether my pc using Open Garden with no success. I keep getting the verizon "pay to play" screen on my pc. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
