Two days ago I have read in the Wall Street Journal that Verizon is planning to release two new phones from Motorola in July. So July is the hot day f

That's why I think June will be the month for Droid 2.2 they'll roll it out before their two new devices just to keep their top of the line phone selection current with the latest OS.

It's possible but then again you have to remember that these two new phones are going to be motos top of the line. I still love my Droid and its great because of its rooting/modding community but compared to the rest of the tech world which moves incredibly fast, the Droid is an aging device.

From what ive been told. Foyo's benchmarks on the Droid are astounding. It was compared to having a Snapdragon in the Droid fast. Camers is great and

No, they won't. As I explained earlier everyone thought that was going to be the case when 5.0 was coming out for the Blackberry Storm 2. They released 5.0 two full weeks ahead of the Blackberry Storm 2.

I know everybody thinks this sounds like good business strategy and Verizon is out to soak you for every penny they can get but trust me, before those phones come out you will see 2.2 on the Droid.

Not going to happen hook..... watch and see.... you will see one of the two new phones from verizon with 2.2 before you will see an update to the moto droid.

I know you think you have your sources..... but they must not be as good as you think if that's what they are telling you.

I tend to agree with Hook, I am very confident we will see 2.2 before any new phones.

Think of it like this, they still have the droid out there for like 500 dollars a phone. They add 2.2 to it, more people buy it. Then they come out with new phones, people are STILL going to switch to the new phones. Plus, if they charge for WiFi Tethering, then they would want to release it as soon as possible for the droid to get an extra buck.

Edit: I just talked to a Verizon rep that actually knew something, and they said Verizon probably WOULD charge for wifi tethering since the palm phones are charged. What they should do is release it for free as a test trial at first, then all the palm users that mostly use their phones for wifi tethering come get themselves a droid. More money.

Verizon doesn't charge for tethering on the palm pre or pixi, but only because they've had a hard time selling it. This would make me think that verizon would charge for tethering on the droid.

Actually Verizon DOES charge Palm Pre owners for Wifi Tethering:
"Enabling the feature will add an additional $40 charge for 5GB of data with this 3G-based Wi-Fi connectivity. The $40 charge is levied on top of your calling and data plan so a Wi-Fi mobile hotspot-activated Pre Plus on a 450 minutes Talk and Text plan would cost you a whopping $129.99 per month ($59.99 for calling plan, $29.99 for Email and Web data plan and $40 for the Wi-Fi feature)."

Yeah, it's old news. Since Verizon had such a hard time selling the palm devices, they made the tethering feature free. Also, they dropped significantly in price.

I read somewhere that the Motorola Shadow is running 2.1 not 2.2 ..it was Engadget i believe but don't quote me on the place. If thats true and the droid 2 comes out in june running 2.1 that doesnt look good for us running 2.2 atleast not for another month. But they could just have used 2.1 for testing cause the phones were built and being tested before 2.2 was released to Verizon.

But there is a negative if the new phones are running 2.2 also that means we wont get 2.2 to after there both realesed cause Verizon is gonna want people to buy the new phones before the old ones. There in the business to make money first.

And my thought on the WiFi hotspot is it will be free and they will use it as a marketing ploy to get more customers, Like Were the only service provider that offers multiple phones with wifi hotspots for business or home for free, (Limited bandwidth of course) (insert fancy name for wifi hotspot) ...They will Sell more Android phones to businesses because they dont need to supply phones (usally blackberrys) and also air cards to run laptops outside the office anymore.

This is all speculation so dont say im wrong or right its just factors and possibility's to look and think about. (just my thoughts on 2.2 so far!)

How many times do I have to point this out? Verizon doesn't care which phone you buy - they want you on the plan. They would just assume you buy a Droid as a new phone.

They dont MAKE the phone so they have no incentive to sell the new ones over the old ones.
