Active Sync issue

mrdroid

Member
I have Exchange 2003 w/Active Sync setup and working fine on stock Droid 2.0.1.

However, it only works for a period of time before I have to go in and manually refresh. I'm not sure what the length of time is but once that happens I won't receive any new mail without manually refreshing.

Is this a bug?

Anyone?
I think I may have resolved this actually... if I did; then apparently Email is the only application on my Droid that I need to leave running all the time. Does that sound correct?

ActiveSync is a term from Windows Mobile. Since the Vista operating system and continuing with W7, Microsoft has replaced ActiveSync with Windows Mobile Device Center.

If you mean you are synchronizing with an Microsoft Exchange server.... Yes, you do have to keep the mail application up and running to synchronize any exchange items (mail, calendar or contacts).

I never shutdown any applications and my Droid runs fine. Occasionally, I may press and hold the power button and shut it down to boot it clean. But, as I get to know my Droid and how stable it is, I don't even bother to do that.

Thanks for validating the e-mail app needs to be running. I guess that makes sense. I figured since most other apps just re-launch when they are needed I thought e-mail would act the same way.

I notice it's runs pretty sluggish when I get around 15-30m mem free. Which is why I would kill apps periodically. I'm not an Exchange expert but I couldn't get my Droid to synch with my Exchange server until I setup ActiveSync on 443 and setup my Droid to synch using SSL. So I assumed the Droid was using ActiveSync.

Setting up Active Sync opens the port on your server for the SSL connection is the way I understand it.

Why they named it the same as their "syncing" client for PDA's and such is a mystery. You're not the first person to ask me about this. "Hey, why can't I sync my blackberry now that you set up active sync on the server?"

I've had Exchange sync set up since I got the phone a week ago. I don't have to leave the email up running. Make sure yu have it set to push notification.

Yea I definitely have Push setup. If I kill the email app though and send a test email I won't get it until I manually refresh. If I leave the email app running I get it right away.
