A question about rooting

Well i'm new to the whole actual smart phone game and I have a seriously idiotic question what is rooting. I switched from a LG rumor when I went to Verizon. So, it's a epicly far jump. So be gentle please.

Root access on your phone is like administrator access on a pc. You can manipulate all files & add/delete things that a "user" can't.

All depends on what you want from your phone. I am rooted, have installed liberty rom, have no bloatware on my phone, have patched the 3g hotspot app, add the no throttle hack, etc. It can oe rather addicting, but a lot of fun.

If you follow this rooting tutorial correctly, http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...ow-root-stock-2-2-using-unrevoked-3-32-a.html, there is very little chance of messing the phone. To date, I have not seen a phone being bricked due to rooting. If you don't understand something or have questions when going through the tutorial, be sure to ask first before proceeding.

Yes, rooting does void your warranty. However, you can unroot again should you ever need to go back to stock.

My last question( I think) Does anyone have a link(s) to a good guide/list of useful or cool things to put on a rooted phone or basic needs? If its in the Rooting guide that got posted call me a idiot lol. Cramped on time with prepping a superbowl party sooo not much time to do this now or to read it.

EDIT: After a quick over at the guide Is it possible to save a backup of how my phone is right now and load it?

You cannot do full backup of your phone prior to rooting. You can do backups after you've rooted. The tutorial provided previously will show you how.
