The live blog over at engadget was clear on this. The OP was incorrect in how he conveyed the information.

The code for 2.1 would become available in a couple of days was what Google said. At that time, co-CEO of Moto said we think we'll put 2.1 on the DROID, but later confirmed at CES that we will 'definitely' put 2.1 on the DROID.

Any time frame at this point is pure speculation. However, the fact that Moto statyed very true to Android w/o any of their own stuff installed e.g. Motoblur, getting it to us would be faster than usual. This was also stated by Sanjay Jha (co-CEO for Moto)

I agree, the "CODE" was supposed released in a couple of days, and too many people misinterpreted that to mean that 2.1 was coming to their device in a couple of days.
It would not surprise me if it was March that we get 2.1.

We saw 2.0.1 shortly after the source was released.

2.1 source code is out now. Proof? I am currently updating my SDK to 2.1
