Today's Xiaomi story simply proves that a great phone doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, at least for folks who live in their home country of China. The new Mi2S just launched in China and out-scored the unreleased Samsung Galaxy S4 in AnTuTu benchmarks. The Xiaomi phone scored an impressive 25,913 vs the SGS4's 25,446. It's important to note the Mi2S uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor that is in the SGS4, so these benchmark figures are likely because of software optimizations.

The other impressive thing about this phone is its incredibly cheap price-tag. The 16GB version of the device will sell for 1999 yuan or ($322USD) off contract, and a 32GB one with a 13-megapixel camera selling for 2299 yuan ($370USD). Here's a short spec-list,
  • Snapdragon 600 with a quad-core 1.7GHz Krait 300 processor
  • MIUI custom Android ROM
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 4.3-inch 720p display
It's surprising how much less these devices actually can sell for when you eliminate the massive overhead and marketing costs (and inflated profit margins).

that will NEVER see the US. Apple will file a suit when they start packaging the first unit. It's easy to save money when R&D for your design is simply taking a tiny torx wrench to an iPhone. Pretty dang cool that it comes with a custom ROM on it though. Would like to see more of that

4.3" x 720 and a custom rom may have a little to do with the low price and speed. If you can really call that being any faster.
