I don't remember seeing this on any of my other cell phones.
It's a quick way to shut off all wireless (radio) communication on your phone.
You can use it when you're in a dead zone so roaming doesn't eat your battery and of course when you're on a plane.
basically kills off the phone capabilities of your device. your wifi will still work but as for voice/data, nope.
No it turns of Wifi too.
Entering "Flight Mode" satisfies the FAA requirement that all wireless communication devices be disabled for the duration of the flight.
Actually... no. The FCC dropped its ban on in-flight calls back in 2004.

The ban currently in place remains that of the FAA.
