Have you tried FoxyRing? It can silence your phone by your location. Plus it is free.
I use Timeriffic to do exactly what you are trying to do...(it's free also). I have a setting to silence all rings/notifications during my work hours Mon-Fri (8:00am - 4:30pm) and enable vibrations for those and then to turn the ringers back up for phone/emails/txts after that. I had a problem of forgetting to change my phone settings and sometimes at work it'd go off loudly or sometimes at home it'd be on silent and I'd set it down and forget about it and I'd miss calls, messages, etc...
Timeriffic has been fantastic since I just need time based profiles anyway (Mon-Fri work hours, sleep hours, weekend sleep late hours and church service hours all have profiles).
Can adjust volume levels for ringer and notifications independently as well as turn on/off vibrations, turn on/off wi-fi/blue-tooth or enable/disable airplane mode depending on time settings.
The 3rd party app may be overriding the manual sound settings.
Can dl Silent in the market
NICE FIND!! I have to check that out. Man this phone and App market rocks!! And it'll only get better.
Of course you don't need it, but it's a handy app to have.
Wait so was it silent or not? This better not happen to me in the middle of class...
