It would appear that Samsung is tired of getting kicked around by Apple in the courts. The very next day after Apple's big announcement of the iPhone 4S, Samsung is filing a suit to block the sale of the device in France and Italy. The suit claims that Apple has been violating a number of Samsung patents all along, but now Samsung is finally coming forward with it. Samsung plans to file similar claims in several other countries as well.

The suit claims that Apple violates two of Samsung’s patents related to WCDMA standards for 3G-enabled devices. Here is Samsung's comment on the suit,
“Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free-ride on our technology….We will steadfastly protect our intellectual property.”
It's like World War III fought in the courts...

well they have for other things, now they are just doing so for the iPhone4S. This carousel ride is going to be never ending between these two.
Agreed. Classic example of Lawsuits is to counter sue as a Re-direct. It's supposed to take some wind out of the opponents sails and draw attention away..... Ends up being a Carousel as you said. It would just be better if we gave them pistols at dawn.

I can just picture the lawyers from both sides going to the bar at the end of the day laughing their tails of with money just raining out of their pockets

Well the one reason I defend Apple is because this is a classic example of "hate the game not the player". Both of these companies probably have a legitimate reason to file these lawsuits but the patent system is ultimately to blame, IMHO.
