Problem with Touchscreen

My wife has the Fascinate and she has been having a problem with it even before I dropped Froyo on it. Basically, it will occasionally act as though the menu button is being pressed and bring up the menu at the bottom, then the menu goes away and the phone starts reacting as though buttons are being pressed because it just vibrates in short spurts and then stops. I'm wondering if this is something that can be fixed by me or if I need to swap it out.
