outgoing emails never sent

    I am using Optimum as my server.
    I get incoming emails just fine, but every time I try to send one, it does not go out, and the Droid X reads "authentication error sending"
    I called my server and the information I put in the outgoing mail set up is correct.

    What else can I try?

    Thanks for trying...I am calling Optimum since I did not see them listed as a service provider.

    Besides checking your login name and password, you could try it without authentication.

    Another thing to try is setting SMTP port to 587

    Finally, it's possible that your email service provider only allows sending mail from their network...they only allow you to do it from home and not through 3G or another network.

    OK...issue resolved!!

    Settings > optonline email account > port 587.
    Also use secure connection and verify certificate should be turned off.
    Thanks for those that offered suggestions.
