What would you want in the cloud for potentially anyone to find, see and post. Certainly not my encrypted spreadsheet with passwords. Encrypted spreadsheets are too easy for someone knowledgeable to break. How about photos of your wife/girlfriend in her nighty or less? How about your medical history that you might carry on your phone to show to a new doctor? Or some of your income tax info? If all your photos are just of the museums that you visited on vacation then who cares if someone sees them, but what if the vacation photos also contained pics of you and your friends drunk at a party. Would you want a new employer to see those before they decide to hire you? There is already way too much personal info out there without me adding more.

I have a Facebook account to communicate with some out of town friends, but I only post photos and wall posts that I don't care who sees them, even if they linked to everybody in the world. I'll post about my vacation after I get back, not before I leave.

Well, there went this thread.

I'm sorry but that's a really, for lack of a better word, dumb statement and this type of attitude is why nothing will ever be changed. You want someone snooping into your every move? If yes, then please, start a thread and update it with recordings of all your calls, all of your web browsing history, and everything else you do on a computer/phone. I'm quite curious.

Perhaps it is, but I'm simply realistic. Trust me I wish everything I did was encrypted, I don't want to personally give you my life, but nothing is safe and if you have the power then you can take it at will no matter who or where you are. Even 923-bit encryption has been broken, but that doesn't stop you from living your life. The NSA has everything about just about anyone anywhere that you've ever done, it's recorded, and it's permanent, likely backed up time and time again in countless secret locations. Are you really affected? Is your life changed? Unless you're a target to the highest degree I don't exactly think so. Google knowing some of these things doesn't exactly harm me either. Do I think it's right? No. Are their worldly benefits despite the breach of privacy? Of course. Although the grey area is different between public and government, there is a grey area none-the-less. If you were to undo the damage done, would you set free the countless terrorists, child porn kingpins, murderers, rapists, etc that breaches in privacy might have put behind bars? I hope not. That might anger some including you to imply, but I'm willing to bet the answer is unequivocally no.

Stopping power before it starts is easy, but once the dam breaks, it's pretty hard to stop the water folks. If you think being upset will change the operations of secret government initiatives, then I'd say I'm not the one making dumb statements.
