What must I do to successfully sync my Gmail accounts on my RAZR? What exactly does it mean to sync Gmail? I get my Gmail through my iPad2 & my RAZR. I leave out my PC due to fact that it's currently XP 64 bit Professional & therefore is not supported by iTunes & therefore I cannot put iTunes on that PC & I don't think of syncing Gmail ever with my computer. Once I make a 64bit Windows 7 computer, then syncing could be included but currently, syncing, (even though it's set to sync is on) the circles turn red & show message that it's been unsuccessful.
How can this message be constantly sent as if it's a short-term issue when it's been a constant issue everyday since July.
What options are available for me to fix this?
What does it mean, in that what isn't done with regard to sync?
How do I go about moving those accounts to green circles?
I assure you that I have all of it set to "sync is on" but once it starts, the phrases change to being off?
The one Gmail account, I recall seeing connected to Dropbox & it also fails. How is this different or the same for sync?

Gmail is your primary email address and "registration" on your android device. Your gmail address is used to link to the play store as well as your contacts in your gmail account.

Two things are possible... 1, gmail is having problems tonight or 2, something is wrong in your registration with your gmail account. Make sure that you have correctly entered your gmail email address as well as your password in the setup of your phone.

It looks like you have posted a lot of new threads lately about problems you are having with your phone. In my opinion, you may need to do a hard reset and start over. Yes, a HR will wipe your phone but when you set it up again and link (sync) it back to your gmail account, the apps and contacts will reinstall on your phone.

YellowJacket, do you mean that after hard reset, the apps re-install? Automatically?

I thought that after hard reset, I would need to install each app, done one at a time--that's a VERY time-consuming process.
Yes, I started thread for every issue I've seen on this phone. I'd prefer to avoid your fix if possible. I'm in a spot where I need my electronics to work for me. I cannot take on any big project right now. I am in midst of some serious stuff & need to find fixes that individually address the stated problem. I'm not prepared for hr. I DO appreciate your help. Must get some sleep. Talk later-couple days I'll be very busy.
Thanks, David, I appreciate your help.Bye, S

YellowJacket-I brought up no issue that was short-lived so this is not about "now"

I've described no issue that is limited to how Google or anything else is working tonight. All issues represent issues that are permanent issues. If I encountered such things just in fleeting manner, I would not be posting that.
It's too late & I no longer recall what your other comments were. It was mostly about HR! I'm resisting but would read with interest steps needed to get it setup the way I have it now but without issues. Are u saying that u never have issues with phone?
I'm impressed or you're lying! Must go! Bye, S

heh heh heh... Nope, not lying. I have owned a lot of different smartphones and by far, my Maxx has been nearly perfect. I get excellent battery life and realy dont have much problems. The ones I do have, I just backtrack and try to undo what I did last before I had problems. That usually fixes most issues.

Doing an FDR will wipe your phone clean but going through the setup process and logging back onto your google account that you registered the phone with will re-download and install all of your apps that you purchased from the play store and restore your contacts. IF you purchased any from Amazon.com, you will need to reinstall the amazon apps separately. Unless you use a separate backup program, you will lose text messages.

I have found that most of the problems I've had are related to poorly written apps or "rogue" apps that cause problems intentionally. The latter can sometimes be hard to get rid of which I why I suggested a FDR as a last resort.

Hope all is well for you.

I installed App Dragon, have list. Found that somehow wrong birthdate is in my setup for iPad2 which I tried to use when things got mixed up - I'll need to address that later as it's different from this issue.
I must go to another state for apppointments Mon & Tues- not likely I'll be able to address this nightmare. Coming back to friends visiting from 1500 miles away. Likely last trip ever. Can't treat likely & dealing with faint energy. Glad you gave direction early. I need to do this but just don't think possible now, is there anyway I could do it & have just gps as the Tues. apt is new place, never even been in nearby anything- totally new area. Use of GPS makes no brainier but without - no compass at all.
No idea if you're knowledgable about iPad2 but Gmail I use for this is also Gmail used for main contact in iPad2 . When I changed password for Gmail, I assumed that it was appropriate to alter signin for iPad2 as well but discovered that it is on different checking schedule. It clearly was not doing to be resolved last night (after being in midst of significant panic & nightmare for hours. It resulted in a second change in password & decision to complete turn off of iPad2 . Signin this afternoon was OK which so far is big relief. There's 1 more account I still need to switch & not confident but not critical to phone use.
I have SMS Backup but no idea if that includes MMS which
I need since by now you know my tendency is not toward brevity. If that includes MMS, I'm all set. I DID find that some of my apps went through Amazon but I wasn't aware of any difference nor did I ever go to Amazon to get any app. I have prime with Amazon which wouldn't apply to apps but would prefer to have anything I get from them to be in one record. Have not had time to look into that. In my memory, I only went to market to find apps. How I wound up with Amazon in the mix is beyond me. I'll see about that later. Gotta go. I'll check back to see if you're around today & have suggestions before I get in car. Don't really need GPS until Tues.
Many thanks, YellowJacket for your extensive help. I know I owe thanks to moe but will get to it later. No energy to do more right now. I have desperately needed the help that has been available here. I'm grateful. Obviously others have found it interesting as well. Bye, thanks, David from Sandra
Also, stopped sync & will see if message stops.

Hi Sandra,

I'm very sorry that things are going so rough for you and wish you the very best. I f you get this message later, I hope your trip went well.

To address the issue with gmail and the ipad, if you change the password in gmail, then you will also have to change it on all the devices that access that gmail account, such as the Razr and the ipad. Dome devices are set up to synchronize on a schedule - probably your ipad, and others as soon as something nwe arrives - such as your razr. Which is probably why the ipad had the problem with the password a little later.

As far as the Amazon apps, I'm not sure which ones you have but it is probably the kindle app and maybe the amazon Mp3 app for music. Going to the amazon website and then choosing the apps for android on the left side of your computer screen will bring you to the amazon app store. On the upper right of your web browser on your screen you will see and icon that says "lets get started". Clicking that helps get the amazon app store reinstalled on your phone. You will have an option during the setup to send your phone a text message with a link to install the amazon app.
Not an important thing to do unless you previously purchased and/or instaled apps from amazon.

As for apps downloaded from google play (the google/android app store), they will automatically download once you set your phone up again. Depending on how many apps you have and how fast your connection is, it usually doesn't take too long....about 45 minutes on my phone.

For backups, contacts are usually backed up to you gmail account or verizons "backup assistant plus" but using a standalone backup app is a safe bet. MMS messages are text messages that come with pictures or video.

I hope this helps and your trip goes well.

Synch is currently experienceing problems ....

How about some insight on this version of the issue, please -

I can successfully synch the Calendar and Gmail, but not the Contacts. Any reason why the contact alone would be a problem? and if so, any idea on how to make it work. Last successful synch was in July.

appreciate any thoughts anyone might have

"subts10", what app manager do you use? I picked one, (Quick App Manager, by Le Cerisier Bleu, for small charge) deleted data, & just rebooted. You mean that now all that months of syncing not working will be history??? I'm just so pleased to have some hope that I might see a different message - I had all sync turned off for long time because it never worked a day, was tired of seeing the message of failure.
I REALLY appreciate your suggestion. I think I'll keep syncing off for awhile just because I won't be able to stand seeing that it's experiencing problems..
Will update later with new info.

glad to help

i use the app manager built into android, i'm running 4.1 on my htc dna. and yeah, when it synced it ignored everything i had put into my phone, fortunately i could live without it. it will sync correctly phone-->computer calendar from then on though, i verified that.

best guess is because i updated to a new phone using my old SIM card from a galaxy s3.... i think that messed up the calendar sync. other people report the same issue with contacts too. let me know how it goes for ya

"Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly" = topic. I welcome all to read & help if possible because mine has been a very long issue. The following is for those who won't be bored by extreme detail because this posting has huge degree of detail.
"subts10", I restored Calendar after following your instructions, and step by step, adding in various check-marks of sync - browser, chrome, Google photos, Google play books, Google play magazines, movies & TV with ALL creating NO problem, some after long cycling, Gmail followed suit but Contacts (for 2 accounts only) immediately brings up the well-known "Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly."
For these 2 accounts only, additionally listed with the stamp showing the famous lower case "g" on blue field & now that I've been working with this info for awhile, realize that apparently, it's key that only under the stamp of this blue g is the "Contacts" category making this Sync to misbehave or perhaps, not key-it just seems odd that since it is the only place that it exists, how would it be not significant in any way whatsoever?
The remainder is detail of interest only to specialist - hopefully, it will make sense leading to resolution of this nagging issue (for my since early last summer, when I got this phone)
On this phone, I list 6 email accounts which are listed in extreme detail, shown what Sync options are available:
1. Calendar, Contacts, Email, base email for prior phone, rarely used, stamp=white envelope, @+ red field
2.
Sync Email = only option, same as #1 account but stamp @ with red field.
3
. Calendar, Contacts, Email, stamp=open white envelope with @ surrounded by red field
4. Calendar, Contacts, Email, stamp=open white envelope with @ surrounded by red field
5. Calendar, Contacts, (outlook.com account)
6. Most used account - Browser, Calendar, Chrome (shown only here), Contacts (no check-mark), Gmail, Google Photos, Play Books, Magazines, Movies & TV.

7. Browser, Calendar, Contacts, Gmail, Google Photos, Play Books, Magazines, Movies & TV, Sync Google+ & Sync Instant Upload but adding Contacts check-mark creates sync issue. Category shows that "Sync is ON" whether listed under g on blue field (with these 11 categories) or stamp showing @ on red field, listing just Sync Email & all others except one are simply listed & all show that Sync is ON
8.
MotoCast ID, no sync options available
9.
Sync email, same account as #6 but just 1 option- what contrast to most used account!
10. Phone number, visual voicemail
11. Backup Assistant Plus
12. Facebook Sync Contacts
13. Facebook No Sync options but listed under Sync Settings, Duh!
14. Dropbox - no options, shows Account Settings and Data & Synchronization beyond General Settings
15. Sync Email, for #7 account second most used
Well, good luck to those who read and might have suggestions as to what fixes might help. I'm open to trying new things and really am overly due for something to work. Thanks to all who offer suggestions. Please make it worth the time it took giving you the info!
So wondering if for 6 email accounts if it's typical to have 15 things listed under Accounts and Sync? OK, very tired and giving up - hoping someone will have a solution for me. Bye, Sandra

Wow that us a huge post! Lol I've also experienced the problem on my RAZR awhile back. I thought the problem was because of when I installed a custom ROM back when I was still on ICS. It just randomly started and went on for like two weeks and I just sorta just dealt with it. I would click on the notification, it would ask for my password, I would input it and the notification would go away and 5-10mins later it would reappear and it was starting to get rather annoying, but I went back to stock rooted after getting bored with the ROM and I don't remember how long past before the notification started to pop up again but this time it maybe lasted for 3 days I opened a different screen I don't remember which and where it was but it had something to do with my Google account, I input my password and I haven't seen it since. Its been a couple months and have since moved to the JB leak.

Yellow Jacket, since this RAZR is my 2nd smartphone! Hard for you to imagine, but since the Verizon-Wireless sales rep made up my Gmail address and, unfortunately, it used a number that I used in passwords often, which once it's in your address, well, it is not likely a number that could be used wisely in any password. When I received the RAZR, sent by Verizon because they determined that my 1st smartphone couldn't be fixed so I had rep on phone for setup. I can't recall but I know it was on my list to use a different email address for the base address once I got the RAZR. Maybe you know or how can I figure it out or can Verizon-Wireless tell me, what the base email address is? Do they need to check the phone or tell me what to check?
OK, you started to help me when I was in frenzy of trying to get all my issues fixed prior to 2 surgeries and now, with those successes in me, the 2nd being knee replacement, which is a total snap compared to other surgical experiences I've experienced, 3 spine fusions for starters-seems that my category most visited has been Orthopedic, more challenged than many others. My family members are all in disbelief at how quick my recovery is. It took place on Dec 19th and I've been out shopping since Saturday and would have been out earlier except that I was in rehab and they don't let you out for shopping sprees! While I carry cane along even with improved health for just "in case." I admit that mostly, it's been tossed over my shoulder more than propping me from ground. Imagine that! Enough about my improved health.
I can't believe that I'm still seeing the same syncing having problems as though it's a 1 hour issue instead of 7th month! I didn't swap out a card from other phone but everything started new. I guess I'm ready to try the reset, especially after your telling me that they re-install automatically. I'm an avid Amazon shopper but never for apps. Isn't it a clue when 10 million people have downloaded an app and it has rating of 4.6 or so, that it's not likely to be a problem although I recently read that an Adobe app is considered a problem! Not exactly a fly-by-night outfit. It wasn't reader but Air or well, can't remember so won't say more. I have rogue apps add themselves to my screen infrequently, added an app that's only purpose is locating such apps that are up to no good but upon running that it says I've got nothing that's questionable. I use App Dragon that makes the list of apps on phone for me because I'm too busy to write that list on my own-too time-consuming to do that. I have long list of apps-I have had lots of time in bed waiting for surgical dates and have used it for research/learning about what function I should expect but feel I've been careful in my decision making.
All your recommendations are welcome and while I'm newbie, I'm am informed newbie or at least, I do lots of reading, lately, lots of it under strong Rx but still, it's information. Your suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Sandra
