Multimedia clock mode too bright

It does seem kind of bright. I don't mind, but it does bother my wife.

I don't like how the screen goes black after a bit. I set it next to my bed so I can see what time it is. Instead of glancing up at the time, I have to push the blasted button on the side. Why can't I just touch the screen and the display comes back on?
