as of right now, there isn't a way to change the voice.

you can select british english for a little variety...but that's it.

It's text-to-speech synthesis. Even if you changed it to a male voice it would have the same issues.

That same text-to-speech "woman" tells me who is calling on my land line phone. How she manages to answer the phone at home while she's out with me is a mystery.

I kinda like the default voice, doesn't bother me yet. But I can see where choice would be nice, and it'll likely happen at some point down the road. Android is just getting started...

Agree, she's got to go. Plus she cannot properly pronounce Hawaiian place/street names.

it would be cool if google can get the same thing as TOM TOM..they have celebrity voices available for ur gps
