It looks like HTC really has decided to follow Samsung's lead by offering both a mini and a max version of their HTC One flagship. According to the latest leaked intel, the HTC One Mini (a smaller version) will launch by the end of July and the HTC One Max (a larger version) will launch by the end of September. Here's a quote with a few more details about these devices,

As for specs, the HTC One Mini, as expected, is going to be the more conservative device in the family – running Android 4.2.2 out of the box will be a dual-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, aided by an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The device will feature a 342ppi 4.3-inch, 720p LCD display and have 16GB of native storage. The HTC Ultrapixel camera and the BoomSound dubbed front speakers are also in tow. All of this will be powered by a 1700mAh non-removable battery.

The One Max, also known as the T6, is HTC's debut in the phablet category boasts some serious muscle on paper: a massive 6-inch Super LCD3 display featuring a 1080p resolution will be run by a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 system-on-a-chip and 2GB of RAM, all of this powered by a 3200mAh battery.

As you can see from these spec breakdowns, this current rumor seems to lineup with previous rumors on the subject. It's probably not a bad idea in the long run. Some folks might just want a smaller version of the phone and some might want a larger version. Appealing to a broad range of customers is usually a smart idea when selling a product. We will see just how much of a difference it will make for HTC later on.

It will be interesting to see how the 5-6" space shakes out. I think it could be a big market for people wanting something that still fits comfortably in the pocket but a bit larger for extended reading.
