This is a step by step method to use the "Old Market" (v2.3.6) that was the last (known) version before Google moved to the current platform.
If you have a Razr, Razr Maxx or Bionic running ICS and dont like Google Play (Market) and were using the old market before and dont know how to block in ICS or just want the old market within ICS for whatever reason. Follow this guide.
Step 1 go on the Play Store and download Old Market or search around the net for Market 2.3.6 (its out there).
Step 2 download from Play Store (if you dont already have it) Root Explorer.
Step 3 once you have both installed. (Make sure you are rooted too). Run Root Explorer. Go to the following location, SYSTEM/APP look up the Phonesky.apk app and change it to say Phonesky.apk.bak. DONT DELETE IT! If you want to revert back you will need this.
Step 4 now go BACK to the root or / folder. Go to the SYSTEM/DATA/APP folder. Now search for "vending". (Remove quotes of course).
Step 5 once you find the ......Vending-1.apk file either .bak OR delete it. Its a duplicate of the phonesky.apk app and can be copied from the System/app folder where the .bak was made.
Step 6 once youve completed all steps 1 to 5 then run the Old Market app. Once you run it choose the Old Market from the selections given.
Step 7 once it says its done. It will ask to reboot or do it later. Choose later. Now you will need to go back to root explorer and find the installed old market. Its located in the SYSTEM/DATA/APP FOLDER again as before use the search to find the tag vending. Now rename it from Vending-2.apk if its named that to .......vending-1.apk.
Step 7 copy the vending-1.apk (old market) you just made with the program. Copy it to the SYSTEM/APP location. Then rename it to Phonesky.apk make sure all permissions are set as usual for these apps. Can attach screen shot if needed.
Step 8 click on the Phonesky.apk app you just copied. Choose Install and install like any normal apk. If all is done correctly chose Open when install is done. DO NOT CHOOSE CLOSE. Once open accept the market agreement.
sorry not done yet. Now google will auto download Play Store again. Now you think all is lost. NOPE!
Step 9 once Play Store is back. Go into Root explorer again. Go to the following folders and . Bak the "vendingupdater" folders. These folders do not appear until Play store is downloaded over the old Market. So the folders are DATA/DATA now search the tag above in quotes but enter them in Root explorer without quotes. You can even just say Vending. But make sure you are in the folder listed.
Step 10 once you find the folder make sure you rename it to vendingupdater.bak. once youve done that go back to the DATA folder (one level up from root). Now go into the following folder and .bak the SAME folder in the SAME STEPS listed in 10. The folder is DATA/USER/0.
Now once all the Phonesky.apk, Vending-1.apk, vendingupdater folders are .bak ed you are done. The old market SHOULD stay. Here is screen shots of Root explorer and of the Old Market. If you have questions feel free to ask. Also please forgive any typos or grammer or other issues in this post. Im using my Bionic with newly installed ICS.
