handcent loseing text messages

I had someone starting probs with me tonight on text and I wanted to save the chat to show someone tomarrow but all of a sudden it vanished off my phone I also had this happen the other day after getting alot of messages is there a way to prevent this im using Handcent for my messaging on a Motorola Droid from verizon.
