I was curious to what people think about google voice and visual Voicemail.

The reason I ask is because for the past 5 months I've had an issue where when people call me it rings on there end but it does not ring on the device. Verizon sent me two new droids then upgraded me to the droid 2. On each phone it would do the samething. I noticed it seemed to happen when the phone had not been used for 30 mind or longer. Once I made a call I would start receiving texts and calls again.

To fix the problem they deleted my account then made a new one. No one at Verizon could figure out what was causing this.

The reason I said all that is because it seemed to start happening right after I installled google voice. Is it possible google voice did this?

I have not had any issues with GV or GV VM.

Question about the bold section, if you gave out your GV number:
How do you have your GV settings under the call settings? Do you have call screening turned on or off? Or do you have groups setup?

I actually never gave out my Google Voice number. I mainly just wanted to use it for Visual Voice mail. I don't want to pay Verizons $2.99 fee per month (pretty retarded). I'm not even sure if the problem is related to Google voice, but i did notice that was the App I had installed when I started to hear about people calling me and my phone not ringing.

I not longer have the problem because I have a new phone (droid x) and an new number. I just dont want it to come back Verizon had to delete my account and recreate it to fix it. I talked to over 15 network specialists who could not figure it out.

I had call screening turned off, but just to clarify. It was my actual number through Verizon that was not ringing on my end when people called. It was all screwed up.

oh okay. I totally agree with you about VZW charging $3 for VM, where some of the other carries have it for free. Like you said, it sounded like VZW issue.

Now, if we can get Google to have GV as voip, then it would be awesome.

Google voice was nice, but it was very unreliable for me. Sometimes it would take a very long time for it to tell me that I had a voicemail, so I changed back to the regular verizon voicemail. It also very rarely transcribed a message anywhere close to what they said.

Yeah the transcribe was always wrong for me to. I wish there was a better way to get visual Voicemail. Verizon needs to stop chargig for every little thing. I think 3 a month is a little expensive for Voicemail.

I have been using google voice for a few months now and don't have a problem with it being unreliable or transcribing problems unless the call has an accent, not speaking english or has a poor connection. I am happy with the google voice.

If that's the case, GV has nothing to do with it. GV doesn't do anything with your inbound calls unless:

1. People call you via your GV number or
2. You set up conditional call forwarding so calls to your Verizon number that you don't answer are forwarded to GV.

It also very rarely transcribed a message anywhere close to what they said.
Transcription accuracy depends a bit on your callers. Some of mine are nearly perfect, others aren't. The latter tend to not speak very clearly.

The reason I said all that is because it seemed to start happening right after I installled google voice.
