Generic icons showing despite deleted images

Hello to all-- would be grateful if anyone could help figure this out...
When I go to my Droid X Gallery, I have multiple icons of photos that have been deleted that still show. It is the "generic" droid media icon that is gray looks like a picture overlying a piece of film (see pic). Delete function not available. I called Motorola and they stated that perhaps deleting off card would be effective, but I can't find anything on the card. Resetting device not effective. All else working normally.

Copy your data off card, format the card and put it back in. Try that.

You do not have to format the card.

Menu - settings - applications - manage applications - all. Find media storage, clear data, reboot.

No, it will not, but it will reset any customized ringtones and playlists.
