Droid X won't save contact

i have been manually trying to input a new phone number/email address and it won't take. when i hit save, it tells me my changes have been saved.

but when i search for the contact, or scroll through the "all contacts," it's not there

i've tried entering/saving six times now. any suggestions for how to fix? i haven't had this problem before
