Droid unrecognized by pc

I just got my new droid and i want to root/flash it but every time i try to plug it into my computer it says usb device is unrecognized i have downloaded the drivers from moto about 3 times and no dice doesn't even give me the option to mount on my droid and i know its not a problem with the droid/usb cord/or sd card because i can connect it to my tv and the files show up any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! p.s. windows keeps installing driver for the droid as unknown device

If you are running windows 7 make sure that you turn the debuging off and you should be good to go.
