Droid Razr - Trying to get my music files loaded

I have been searching the site and trying to piece together from various threads the best way(s) to get music onto my phone and listen to it with ear buds. I have a removable micro SD card and all that but I have been having a hard time getting music on to it and finding an app to play it. I have music on the internal storage that I have used to make custom ring tones and all that but I want to put some music on there in a place that won't slow the phone down. Preferably from iTunes or direct from a CD.

Suggestions please?

If music is in iTunes on your PC, can't you open Google music on there, sync the music, and then play it from Google player on phone? Stored in cloud, so no memory is used...

I don't know can you? I am not too current on current things. Like cloud storage, Google music, etc. I have read that there are better music players to be found in the app store than the default players on the droid.
