Droid 2 Global having issues when texting

I have a droid 2 Global, I just updated it and that solved most of my problems, now I seem to have another one, It started a couple of days ago, I go to text with my keyboard and can only type one word and then have to back out of it and start all over again. If I use the screen I can type more than one word but it has a HUGE delay, it will either catch up after a long while, or not and just go back to the text message I have currently. I use the text message that came with it, no fancy app. I hope some one knows how to fix this, it is frustrating. Thank you in advance for all your help!

try clearing the cache/data of the app

settings --> apps --> messaging (or whatever the app is called)
