dialer keys not responding when pressed

My phone works fine except that when I Try to use the dialer to make a phone call, pressing anything just doesn't work. Sometimes it will call out five minutes later and if I press more than 1 time, and the phone does make the call, it will call a second time while I am talking on the first call. Arghh'
