Easily one of the most requested features in Android has to be (or has been at this point) a 'dark mode' feature. One big reason people rooted their phones, myself included, was to be able to use a darker palette throughout the Android OS. It's easier on the eyes in my opinion, it looks better in many people's opinions, and it can sometimes even provide a small bump to battery life. In a Night Mode feature request thread at Google's Issuetracker, a Google employee marked this as *fixed* and wrote: Our engineering team has added this feature. It will be available in a future Android release. From that quote it can be assumed it will appear in P (or Q?) so it's probably going to be some time before us non-Pixel users see it. Still... pretty cool Google. FINALLY!

I really never cared for dark mode. It was alway hard on my eyes and had problems with smaller fonts. it does seem to be pretty popular though...so I guess it is good that users finally have a choice.

I tend to agree with the above post ^^^. For me personally I prefer the lighter mode and have all available apps on my phone set to light mode or white background & black text. Dark mode is harder on my eyes personally. But I do know dark mode is very popular and requested, so it will be good to have the choice throughout the whole OS.

I hate bright light staring back at me. Always a little disappointed when an app doesn't have night mode. Case in point:

And that's why it's good to have choices. I think it's awesome that Google is going to add a dark mode across the whole OS (apparently)...for those that want it. For me, I'll stick to light mode as much as possible. Preferences and choices are a good thing.

And: it's gone again.

Hi folks, you may remember me from the last three releases where it looked like Dark Mode was being added. Unfortunately, this bug was closed prematurely due to a miscommunication with the team that handles AOSP issues.

What we *have* added in a future Android release is a developer-facing setting (via Developer Options) to toggle the -night UI mode qualifier, which will make it easier for developers to create and test apps that implement night mode. This qualifier has been in the platform since Froyo (SDK 8) and globally modifiable via UiModeManager since Marshmallow (SDK 23); however, there was never an explicit toggle made available anywhere in Settings.

If it's any consolation, we will also not be adding Hot Dog Mode (where all UI elements are yellow and red).

CORRECTION: Dark mode WILL NOT be added in Android 9 • r/Android

At least my LG has the ability to download themes and I've found one I mostly like... sadly I can't seem to find a good tutorial on making my own.

regardless this would be a very welcome feature, come on google.

most likely you can find a theme or even a launcher that has a theme that can come close to dark mode.

Lol we're showing off our themes now?

Btw I don't spend enough time on my call screen to care about the random anime guy, it's the only place there's anything about the anime on the phone (it does kinda make me want to watch it)

Now I'm on this mission to get as dark as I can. Found a few more settings in Nova to get darker. Got dark icons. Made my weather widget a bit darker. Darker wallpaper that was on my mind after the movie I watched with my boy last night.
