Changing volume while on a call

Has anyone tried increasing or decreasing the volume while on a call? When the phone is to your ear and the proximity sensor is engaged it doesn't seem like you can change the volume. I have to move the phone away from my ear, only then can I change the volume. Seems kind of silly, but hopefully an easy bug to fix.

Motorola set it up to be changed only when pressed repeatedly. My wouldn't work this way, but after I did a factory reset, now it changes up or down when pressed repeatedly.

Huh? It seems to work great on my phone. Push the volume while on a call, mash it or tap it the volume changes.
